Over the next couple of days I am going to be doing something a little different. I am basically going to act like a fan of each team and tell you why I think my team will win, then, thinking as the unbiased “journalist” that I am, I will make an honest prediction. I am going to spread this over three days so everyone has time to comment on it, so today I am going to tell you reasons why I think the Colts will win, tomorrow I will tell you why I think the Saints will win, then in a rare Saturday post, I will make my actual prediction for the game.
Here is the single biggest reaso
n why the Colts will win the Super Bowl this Sunday…are you ready? Its Peyton Manning. He is the best quarterback in the NFL today and will likely go down as the best of all time when he decides to hang up his cleats. How many quarterbacks in the league can call plays at the line of scrimmage? Most teams call a play in the huddle and have an audible or two in place in case the QB doesn’t like the defense he sees. Peyton on the other hand, just has the offense line up at the line, looks over the defense, then calls the play. Of course you have to know how to read defenses, but no one does that better than Manning. Its really not even fair.
Did you see the game against the Jets a couple weeks ago? The Jets looked like they had Peyton on the ropes but towards the end of the first have he finally figured out what they were doing and it was game over. Once he figured it out he knew exactly how to attack it and the Jets couldn’t adjust to anything that would throw him off.
Peyton threw for 4500 yards this year, a career high and the 10th time he’s done that in 12 seasons, and 33 touchdowns, and he didn’t really play the last 2 weeks of the regular season because the Colts already had the number 1 seed locked up. He would have thrown for 5000 if he would have played in those 2 games. No one in the league can do what he does at the QB position and every time he steps onto the field the Colts have an advantage.
If you need more reasons to convince you the Colts will win, check out their receivers and tight ends. Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark EACH had 100 catches, over 1000 receiving yards, and 10 touchdowns. That’s ridiculous, when was the last time 2 guys on the same team did that in the same season? Then as if that wasn’t enough, you have Pierre Garcon (47 catches), Austin Collie (60), and Joseph Addai (51). So when you try to take away Wayne and Clark, there are other guys. The Jets tried to do that and Garcon and Collie combined for 18 catches, 274 yards, and each had a touchdown. And while they rely on the pass, they can still run the ball a little. They had 100 yards rushing as a team against the Jets and Addai had 800 yards and 10 touchdowns during the regular season.
Need a little more? On defense the Colts have 2 guys that can really get after the quarterback in Dwight Freeny (13.5 sacks, and yeah I know he’s hurt but he’ll probably play) and Robert Mathis (9.5 sacks). And as a team they forced 14 fumbles and had 16 interceptions.
The Colts just have too many weapons, especially on offense, for any other team in football to handle. And when you put Peyton Manning in charge of those weapons, good things happen for the Colts. So far this year the Colts are 16-0 when Peyton actually plays the full game and I don’t see any evidence why that would change come Sunday.
Make sure you come back tomorrow to see the

I just vomited all over my beautiful computer. I don’t care if you are playing devils advocate or not. I hate this article and I wish it would go away.
Give me a break, its not that bad. I’ll give the Saints some love in tomorrow’s article. I know you wanted me to do an article about how Manning sucks, and I was going to, but while doing the research I realized that, while I hate him, he does not suck, not even a little. In fact, he’s the exact opposite of suck. I know, I don’t like it any more than you do, but the stats speak for themselves. While you may not like this article, facts are facts and nothing in it is made up so you are going to have to deal with it.
No I don’t. Peyton is a boob. He is immobile in the pocket. Mediocre in the playoffs with a record of 8 & 8 after plenty of playoff collapses. And if you look at QB rating he was 6th in 09. He may have been the best QB in the league for the first half of the decade, but he has been dropping in rank since the last time he was #1 in 06.
The #1 QB in the league in 09 was Drew Brees. He has bested Manning for the last 2 years and is about to do it again on Sunday.
Bazinga!
I agree, Brees was the number one rated passer in 2009, but Manning threw for more yards and only 1 less touchdown and could you remind me who had more wins this year?
He had more yards, but fewer yards per game, he had a lower completion %, he had more interceptions.
And 1 less touchdown isn’t a bit number but apparently 1 more win is?
For the record, I felt really dirty writing this and it made me hate myself a little. I’m not a Colts fan by any stretch of the imagination and I hope they get killed on Sunday, but I thought this would be a cool format for discussion over the next few days
Agree.
Devils advocate or not, the Colts are going to win this game. Manninings mediocre playoff record, 8-8, is also part of having a whack defense for so long. Don’t start believing this defense is much better. But the fact that they can stop the other offense some of the time, gave them the chance to go 16-0 and be in the super bowl.
Year after year, Manning delivers. If he was in Baltimore putting up these offensive numbers, they would win ever year. Just so happens he has had some decent defenses, so they are in it.
As far as the best all time, NEVER! Not even the best of his era. I am going with Touchdown Tom Brady. 3 Super bowls. Show me the championships!!!
Freddie is drinking the kool aid too huh? I guess I can expect this from a guy that supports the Lions.
I can careless which wins cause either way I’m getting a Purdue QB with a Super Bowl ring.
Though I would much prefer Brees to be that guy.
No matter what I think we have the makings for a high scoring gun slinging game full of awesome.
I am guessing you meant Indiana QB’s because Peyton went to Tennessee. But I totally agree with the latter statement.
No, he’s talking about Peyton’s backup, Curtis Painter. He’s a rookie from Purdue.
Does that even count?
OK, everyone already knows what I think about the Dolts. Besides despising them, I really hate them! But Ryan is right here in his analysis. Peyton Manning is the best QB in the league right now and will be the best ever at the time he’s inducted into Canton. And, is every reason why the Dolts should win on Sunday.
You all know Drew is my man, He’s a Boilermaker!! And head to head he has bested Manning in QB stats the last couple of years. But he’s young and still has some longevity things to prove in the league, which he will over time. If he keeps going at the pace he’s going, when he retires he will have bested Mannings’ and Favres’ records and will be the best of all time. That’s the thing about life and whatever you undertake throughout it. When you last over time you become special. Manning is there right now, Brees will be, in time.
As Freddie says, you have to throw Brady into the mix, but even with the championships he still just doesn’t have the QB stats that Manning has compiled and Brees is compiling.
Brees isn’t that young. He’s 31 years old and finishing his 9th NFL season. Manning, in comparison, is 33 and finishing his 12th season. Brees has had some damn good years the last few years, but he’s too far behind Manning to catch him and break any of his records. Brees is almost 20,000 yards behind Manning, a number that I doubt he can throw for over the next three years. He will have hall of fame numbers by the time he retires, but he hit his stride a little too late and is to far behind Farve and Manning to break any of the records they have or will have.
Damn! Seems like just yesterday he was QB’in at Purdue! I didn’t realize he was 31 already. But never say never, if he plays another 9 or 10 years, ala Favre he just might pass Manning. Albeit if Manning decides to play until he’s 40 too that won’t happen then. That’s why Favre has all those records, he’s been playing forever. Longevity almost always makes you great, just ask The Stones, The Who & Aerosmith.
Your baby boy is going to be 30 this year. So that would make him and Brees old men.
Point Adam!!!!!!!!
Well whats that make me then Adam? Watch it now son, be very careful!!!!
You can’t scare me old timer. Ryan already exposed your weakness on the site.
And like I told the young buck, it works vica versa. And there are a few things I haven’t told him too. Like when I have to get into a scrap that there’s only one thing on my mind and we’ll leave that to your imagination for now.
