So I finally had a chance to sit down on Monday night and do a little internet sports reading, hoping to have a lot to write about for this post. If any of you were paying attention you already know that clearly did not happen. This was an absolutely horrible weekend for sports.
Did any of you catch the Winter Olympics? Neither did I. I’ve realized over the last few days that the Winter Olympics are like the bastard step-child of the Summer Olympics. Remember how much fun it was to watch Michael Phelps and Shawn Johnson and USA basketball back in ’08? Well, the winter games are a giant steaming load compared to that. Want to make it more interesting, take Lindsey Vonn and the other 3 chicks that posed for SI’s swimsuit issue and make them compete in the swimsuits they posed in. Did you see Lindsey Vonn in a tiny two piece? I would watch that, I would watch every damn second of it. Maybe I will get more into it when hockey gets going, but for now I’m out.
But hey, it was NBA all star weekend. Don’t care, not even a little. Final score was 141 to 139. I caught parts of that game, and I am all for high scoring games but that was a joke. There wasn’t even an attempt at defense. I like to watch people get dunked on, not watch them step out of the way so they can let a guy throw one down without a hand in his face. Doesn’t it seem like 10 or 12 years ago guys cared more. Its always been an exhibition and guys have always had fun with it, but it seems like the players used to try a little harder. The lack of effort is hard to watch. Good thing the dunk contest saved the weekend….oops, that sucked too. Who were those guys? Didn’t they used to be actual all-stars? You know its bad when analysts say the D-league dunk contest was better. The highlight of the whole event was the performance by Shakira. How hot is she? On the plus side, Derrick Rose was healthy enough to play and get 8 points and 4 assists in 15 minutes of action.
At least I had the Daytona 500 to look forward to. Of course I only had 4 hours to devote to watching it so I missed half the damn race. A pothole? Are you serious? How does Daytona International Speedway end up with a pothole half way through a race? Did the grounds crew at Soldier Field put that track in? That’s the only explanation for it coming up so quickly. Its not like no one had time to properly prepare the track, this event has only been held the same weekend every year for half a century. I think the race could have been saved if an hour and a half wasn’t wasted fixing the damn hole only to have it pop open again 20 minutes later. Oh well.
At least the Blackhawks won. With the shootout victory Sunday, the ‘Hawks skate into the Olympic break on a 4 game winning streak. Now I only have to wait 3 weeks for meaningful hockey to resume.
As you can probably tell, I’m a little down on the sports world right now, at least professional sports (Purdue men’s basketball had a damn good week). Maybe its a hangover from the Super Bowl and having no relevant football news to talk about for the first time since August. I don’t know, but whatever it is, it’s made me long for spring training to start, and God help me, the White Sox better have a good season.

It was a good beer weekend, but then again everyday is a good beer day. Unless you are out.
Well lets talk about the EVIL EMPIRE that is the YANKEES…..
Johnny Damon sold his soul to the empire, cut his hair, and shaved his beard, then they let him goto the Tigers. I despise the Yankees for who they are, but love them for what they represent…. Your thoughts…..
I hate the Yankees, but they aren’t afraid to spend money, and they win games. Nuff said.
