In this weeks race at Hotlanta Carl Edwards got his revenge, but was the reward worth the risk? Dave and I have had this conversation a bunch of times on the site already, and he scored 1 point in the debate that allowing the the drivers to police themselves was going to turn NASCAR into a demolition derby. Edwards intentional spin of Keselowski sent him sailing in the air flipping upside down, then righting himself only to hit a wall. I am personally all for letting the drivers settle their issues on the track; in my book exchanging a little paint makes the sport more fun, but when is enough enough? Spinning someone at 180+ on a car that you know is pretty flip happy seems to be taking it a bit to far. The driver could have been seriously hurt, the amount of air that thing got left potential for fans in the grandstand to be hurt, and I can’t see what the reward is?
I would like to see revenge be an aggressive pass that squeezes a drive close the wall forcing them to slow down off the pace, not spinning them at 180 and hoping for the best. What is your take on it?

As cool as 7 car accidents are, I do not want to see someone get hurt. This rule needs another look!
Told ya. The sport hasn’t lost a driver since Earnhardt, they will lose one this year if they continue to let the drivers police themselves. Worse yet they may end up losing fans (killing them) with flying debris.
Accidents happen, just 2 weeks ago a woman in the stands at a funny car drag race was killed when a tire flew off a car after a high speed wreck. But accidents from assinine moves like Edwards pulled off is criminal. He should be suspended for the rest of the season. Yes, the rest of the season, NASCAR needs to put their foot down on this one now and end the childish play with 3000 lb cars at 195 mph!
I think that is too much. He should be suspended but don’t take him out for the season. NASCAR made the rule not Carl Edwards, he just tested the limits of it. Plus if you set that high of a precident you will be cutting off the hand that feeds you when Tony Stewart or Jeff Gordon does it in a few weeks.
Carl did not mean to flip the car, and he got probation for 3 weeks. Remember at the start of the season, NASCAR said, “have at it boys”. Granted, now that Danica is coming up, she will throw down with the big boys and I hope she punches Spencer in the face like he did Kurt a few years ago.
Drive boys
Yep, NASCAR made the rule and they have to face the consequences just as much as Edwards does.
Let’s hope they sit the drivers down and say hey this is getting out of hand real fast. Be clean and smart before someone gets hurt.
Now that NASCAR has come down with a slap on the wrist for Edwards’ childish behavior with a 3000 lb weapon they have shown that they are serious about getting either a driver, spectator or track worker killed before they teach these good ole boy punks how to drive and race as the sport was meant to be run.
Thank God the IRL fires up the engines this weekend in Sao Paulo!!! Real drivers, real machines, real speed, real talent!!!
Really….
Have you seen Driven….
Stallone is aweful, much less Kip Pardue. The only saving grace to that patheic movie and sport was BURT REYNOLDS!!!!
“Get your Steven Segal lovin’ asses, OUTTA HERE!!! We love ya Burt!”
what the F are you even talking about Petry, I’m talking about real racing not some pathetic movie!!!
The movie “Driven” is the most main stream exposure the open wheel series has ever had. NASCAR is by far much superior than tooth picks with wheels
Guess you’re obviously too young to remember the best classic racing movie ever made, Grand Prix!
If you like banging, crashes & demo. derbies then yes you like the good ole punk boy NASCAR racing.
If you like motor sports at its most technologically advanced state with solid wheel to wheel, 200+ mph action by the most skilled drivers in the world then you like open wheel racing. Be it INDYCAR, F1, Silver Crown Series, or plain old USAC Midgets, it takes some great skill to drive these cars.
I think this whole airborne issue stems from this new car. Did anybody else notice that when the car spun around the roof flaps opened like there are supposed to, and the car still went airborne. those flaps are meant to disrupt the air and keep it on the ground, now I have watched NASCAR long enough to remember the old body style cars with out flap, which also were prone to flipping, but once they put flaps on the roofs of that car, they rarely went over. As for retaliation, its part of racing it happens. Take Dale Sr for example, he spun guys almost every race. Many times cause big accidents, but no one was yelling about it then.
and yes Grand Prix great movie, but I prefer Le Mans!
And I do follow F1 alot now. Indy, the only race I care about is the 500, cause every other race is lucky to fill a field of 20. I feel the true issue with all the series having problems is the plain fact that racing is losing the “realness” or the “experimentation part” of it. Quote Don “The Snake” Purdome “now those are real cars from a time when sex was safe and the cars were dangerous!” that is real racing!
Amen Bobby!! The Snake knew what he was talk’in bout! That goes back to my teen years and earlier though dude.
LeMans was also a great movie but I liked Gran Prix more for some reason.
Indycar merged with Cart 2 years ago now. No less than 23 cars each race, up to 30 occasionally, usually 25 or 27 and of course 33 for the 500.
The plain fact that all the cars, no matter what series are cookie cutter cars does make it boring. No more individuality, or experimentation as you call it is allowed. That has taken a lot out of auto racing! It used to be, find a way, any way, to beat the other guys cars.
