Professional Athletes Are Dumb

For most of us the idea of getting millions of dollars to play a game is unfathomable since we weren’t granted the gift of eye hand coordination or the 7 feet of height that are required to play pro sports.  However for the pros; making millions and spending them is easy peasy. And it seems like spending them is their top priority.

If you haven’t noticed from all the videos and links I reference from Yahoo Sports, that is where I get a lot of my daily dose of sports, and today they did it again by showing me just how frivolous the average professional athlete is with his money.  According to the article 80% of professional football players are on the verge of bankruptcy just 2 years after they retire, and 60% of NBA players within 5 years.

It was to say the least amusing to see how players the likes of Scottie Pippen were able to blow 120 million and now sit on nothing.  Guess No Tippen Pippen found a way to spend his money without adding gratuity.

When you give a bunch of uneducated young men more money then they know what to do with (especially when they came from nothing) they are going to spend it irresponsibly. I’m sure they don’t have the foresight to plan for their future and think the gravy train is going to keep on rolling. I’m not sure about the NBA (because who gives a shit about the NBA anymore) but I know the NFL has taken some steps towards helping their employees further their career after football is over with. They have a “broadcast bootcamp” to prepare players to make a transition to the booth, help players complete their degrees, give them courses on how to run a business, and have programs for them to get an even higher education.

Another great reason they go broke Antonio Rogers cromartie ” Cromartie has 7 children with 6 women living in five states, and has been named in at least five paternity suits in the past two years.”

My thought was they should get rid onf the 1 and done rule and make it a requirement to graduate from with a degree of some sort. But imposing rules that force these guys to get an education will ruin sports. It will take longer for superstars to enter the league and many of them probably wouldn’t graduate or make it trhough college ball uninjured.

It is nice to see that the NFL is at least trying to make their players less retarded.

BTW… There are a lot of stupid people who graduate from college and blow millions. I liken it to the man who put his last $3 on the powerball and hit the whole damn thing…. He’s got no chance………

A lot of these guys are given a pass in school, at home, among their peers from the time they are very young. Because they have a rocket for an arm, or are great at knocking other people down, teachers look the other way, and undeserved passing grades are provided to make sure they can perform under the Friday night lights. This largess is not just provided to pro calibre athletes. I’ve seen it in HS and college. These young men end up just plain dumb, and in many respects are never forced to grow up. Scotty Pippen is probably not very bright to begin with. Marry this lack of cognitive talent with no education and one can understand how he dissipated 180 million dollars, or however much it was. Makes me sick.
