The Brew Review: Episode 7 The World Classic Schwarz Original Black

Hello everbody and welcome back to the Brew Review!

It today’s episode I go black, and I hear after that you never go back, but I don’t think that is true because I love my ambers way to much. In a previous episode I tasted a hoosier effort at a Schwarz from Upland Brewing company, which was enjoyable, but thanks to Julie and Jason for the great belated birthday gift I got Monchshof “The Original Black” to taste for you today. So let’s get into it.

The Pour

Monschof’s poured with a ridiculous amount of head that took up 90% of the glass.  It  had a “black” color to it. I quoted black because it was more the color of black coffee than it was actually black.

The Nose

Pretty nice nose.  You get malt up front with a bit of a flower hop.  A little sweetness back’s up the toasty malts which I think is probably a little bit of caramel malt.  You definitely get a hop aroma, but I don’t think it will follow through to the palate based off of the color.

The Palate
Schwarz is surpisingly a true pilsner.  Don’t let your eyes fool you.  I do this too much with dark beers, just because they are dark doesn’t mean they are full bodied or thick or “motor oil like”.  This beer is very light body, goes down smooth and actually reminds me of a summer drinker. You could absolutely enjoy Schwarz on a hot summer day.  A great quality from a dark beer.

The flavors in is however remind me a lot of the standard dark beer.  Comes off the palate with a very dry finish and a sweet bitterness.  It reminded me of dark chocolate, without tasting like chocolate.  I mean that it was sweet, bitter, and dry, but didn’t actually taste like chocolate it’s texture I guess is what reminded me more of the dark chocolate.

All in all I was very happy with Monschof’s Schwarz it was quite good and enjoyable.  I give it 4 out of 5 beers.  A great beer for everyone to enjoy.

Be sure to subscribe to our feed or youtube channel so you can get updated to new posts immediately.  Also leave a comment below if you have had Monschof’s and be sure to tell me what you think of the recent short sports articles I have been writing.  I am trying to get some conversations going without writing you a dissertation on sports.

Until next time: Cheers!

I would have to say that this is probably the most professional post yet. It was really well put together and I think you did a great job.

Once you go white, you know black ain’t right.

I have never had this beer, but I’m sure I would like it.
