A pig faced portrait of Black Hawks captain Johnathan Toews has recently showed up on the Ike in Chicago and it is upsetting many Hawks fans. Funnily enough it isn’t his ridiculous pig nose that is upsetting fans, it is the cup sitting behind him. Why you ask? Because it is a jinx in the eyes of Hawks fans around Chicago. I don’t know if you have been living under a rock for your entire life or not, but if you haven’t you should know that sports teams, fans, and commentators are more than just a little superstitious.
You don’t let hockey sticks lie down crossed, you spit in your hand before you go up to the plate, and the last player to shoot a basketball in warm ups has a good game. A couple of things you don’t do are ever mention a perfect game or shutout when the pitcher is on the mound, ever mention the word shutout in the locker room, and most definitely never touch the Stanley Cup until you have won it.
Now this doesn’t quite fall under the don’t touch the Stanley Cup rule, but putting a huge mural over one of the busiest roads in the city predicting a Hawks Stanley Cup victory may be just the ticket to get some Hawks fans nervous about jinxes.
What’s your take? Are the Hawks jinxed? Does the mural need to be removed? Can Toews overcome the superstitions and lead the Hawks to their first Stanley Cup is some 20 years?

This is so true, sports players and fans believe in all that mess and will get pissed off about it as well.
I didn’t know about the hockey sticks because i am not a big hockey fan, but I can see how the fans in Chicago will get pissed about that billboard. I mean, what was the people thinking anyway and who the hell is that artist that cannot get the nose right? That sucks. LOL!!! She/he should never get a job again painting something so large.
But the truth is Chicago is not going to win the Cup anyway, so just enjoy the damn painting!!!
All jinxing aside, the Hawks have had a terrible 2nd half and even though they are still in the running for most points (that’d be home ice advantage in the playoffs for any of you novices out there)in the western conference they’ll be hard pressed to not get bounced in the 1st round right now. The hell with the mural, they need to get things turned around and find some energy for the playoffs!!!
your right Dave, they need to get it together, playing like they are ain’t gonna get the cup back home on Chicago! They played to good in the 1st half of the season to go down like this!
Obviously the game is decided by the players and not a jinx, but for those out there that are really superstitious this is a sure fire excuse for any Hawks demise.
