NCAA Tournament! March Madness Baby!
The NCAA Tournament starts tomorrow 3/16/2010. You sit by the computer, the flat screen, or even the radio (yes…people still listen) waiting for your picks to advance to the next round. The NCAA men’s and women’s basketball programs does a fantastic job of declaring a clear National Champion (BTW… that date is 4/5/2010). Good luck to all the great schools including Purdue and Notre Dame for making this year’s bracketology fun!
What I do not understand is why the NCAA does not adopt this format for the football programs. Collegiate football uses a number of outside influences, media (the AP and Harris poll), individuals (the Coach’s Poll), and various analysis. There is no deciding body and hard to justify a need for the Bowl Championship Series. I would like to see a system crafted by the NCAA that makes for a decisive champion and a better experience for collegiate football following. Your thoughts….

You ask the age old question, when will college football go to playoff system? Many have put forward plans and nothing much gets done. IMO, the only way a playoff system can succeed is to drop 12 game regular season schedules and conference championships games. College kids shouldn’t be playing into mid or late January. Aborting these games would allow for, at least, an 8 team playoff, with the bowl games included. Problem is, the revenue generated from 12 game schedules and championship games is huge and schools probably will not want to do it. Eventually something will get done but don’t hold your breath.
I could only hope that NCAA football would go to a tournament, but it will never happen. Outside of just the money made from the season is the money made for the 1,000 different bowl games that 1,000 different companies sponsor. Not to mention NCAA football sucks.
Watch it, man it’s all I got. That and 2 national championships!
I do watch it, but it is so hard for me to enjoy a sport with absolutely no defense. I get tired of seeing scores every other game that total 90 points. 50-44 or 46-42 is just ridiculous.
I dunno the money is one thing, the sponsors another. This is the highest competitive level in football outside of the NFL. I would like to see and hear some debate on this…
Should college football have a national tournament or continue to push the BCS…. Hell…The President said he’d prefer a playoff system, and he gets whatever he wants!!!!!!
A national tournament is what everybody except the schools, the networks, and the sponsors want, because they will lose a ton of money by leaving the BCS behind.
There is really nothing to debate. Sports radio, ESPN, and magazines have been huffing and puffing about this for years.
You better start watching soccer games then pal.
Yeah wrong kind of futbol.
Well I’m huffing and I am definately puffy….
I love football and the excitment of the Tournament is awesome. People going to Vegas for the next three weeks, betting, its just a lot of fun. I mean hell I only watch a few games this time of year, but I am still in an office pool.
