The Brew Review: Episode 6 Matt & Phin’s Extraordinary Ale Review

Hello everbody, and welcome back to the Brew Review!

WARNING THIS VIDEO IS A HOT MESS!

Continue if you like watching me make a fool of myself.  I can’t get the beer open, I stab myself, it is a week old,  Owen is screaming in the background, the beer is just ordinary.

END WARNING

This beer is  ”pleasant” which really means I have no complaints about it, but nothing stands out to me.

The Pour

The Extraordinary Ale pours a beautiful gold color with a nice white foam head on top of it and a body that is extremely clear. I was expecting a little bit of a darker color something with an amber hue to it, but to my surprise Matt & Phin’s pours like on of our staple domestic light lagers.

The Nose

The nose is very nice. Floral, sweet, and hoppy. A caramel malt and some hops. A pretty simple clean nose that leads into a pretty simple clean beer.

The Palate

I started off a little more excited about it than when I finished. It had a real good malt base on my first sip, but as I drank further I found a little bit of a lacking body, with light alcohol, and a little skunkyness. My guess is they snuck a little European hops in there.

Overall a 3.25 out of 5 beers. It was pleasant and drinkable, had decent flavor, but lacked a little bit on the body for me.

  1. Sounds like my kind of beer. How deep is the cut?

  2. It isn’t deep. I just shoved the tip of the church key into my palm. Merely a flesh wound.

  3. Its a shame that with such a solid sounding name for the beer that it was just average. I have never seen that beer on any shelves nor have I drank it before. I have only seen it once in that mystery pack.
