Tragedy Strikes Again
Once again tragedy has struck the sports world as 22 year old FIU running back Kendall Berry was stabbed to death outside the teams rec center on the Miami Florida campus late last night.
It appears there was an argument between Berry and several other people just outside the teams training facility late Thursday when the stabbing occurred.
This appears so far to be just another senseless death over what was probably a petty amano amano spat. While details are unknown at this time and the investigation is ongoing I’d be willing to bet that it was about someone thinking they were “disrespected” or someone trying to be a “man”.
Young people today, especially athletes pretty darn much have everything handed to them and are pampered from the first time someone sees them throw, hit, bounce or catch a ball. Because of this pampered upbringing they believe everyone in the world should bow down to their knees in their presence because of their “greatness”. With those kinds of attitudes roaming around and the churning of hormones at those young ages tempers flare quickly when someone feels slighted and tragedies like this occur with regularity.
The only fix I can see for the future of these kids is to bring back some discipline into the lives of our youth. Stop pampering these kids, make them work for what they want and stop handing them everything they demand. And, throw out political correctness. Kids need to learn how to lose, how to fail and how to be offended and then take it like a human being. Humility is a part of life’s lessons. It makes you stronger and a better person. Until we bring back the realities of life’s lessons to our youth they will continue to run amok and tragedies such as this latest death of a 22 year old athlete will continue.

Dave,
It is always a shame when someone loses their life, especially when it happens for no apparent reason.
But you can’t blame today’s youth. Murder and crime have been present since the dawn of man.
Adam
That’s true, non more specifically than Cain slaying Abel. However, today’s youth has run amok, literally. Kids used to be taught respect and discipline. Today they’re given everything and keep on demanding more.
Disagreements used to be settled with fists or some kind of athletic challenge. If a kid gets dissed nowadays he (or she) is just as likely to pull out a gun or a knife and kill you.
It’s because our moral standards as a society have slipped and the youth today is just too damn pampered. “Nobody left behind”, “everyone gets a trophy for participating”, “we don’t keep score because it’s not about winning or losing”, you can’t even swat a kid or paddle their behind anymore. If you do you go to jail for child abuse. What a bunch of BS! Kids don’t know how to lose or fail or be humiliated so when they are they feel disrespected and kill someone. We used to wear swats as a badge of honor, the more swats the more of a rebel. It’s truely a sad situation we’ve gotten ourselves into with our future.
Let me say this… as much of a sports story this is, this is not a crime and punishment blog.
Lastly,
I know a thing or two about criminology and for someone to stab you takes rage. Gun violence is much less impersonal and done a majority of the time without feelings. This sad situation was surely personal.
remember when athletes actually didn’t run there mouths and let there actions on the field do the talking.
And petry was a horrible cop, his opinion doesn’t count!
I sure wish one of the two Deon’s would make a post on this subject!!!!
Deon has been away for a while now.
