What Is National Beer Day?

Some of you may have seen a few tweets or Facebook Status updates today with wishes of wellness on National Beer Day, or cheers telling you to drink up. Well that is because April 7th is the day beer was brought back to the United States, by one of the greatest drinking president ever; Franklin D. Roosevelt.

On April 7th  1933 the legal sale of beer with 3% alcohol (roughly4% ABV) content or lower was put into effect by the Cullen-Harrison Act signed by FDR in March of the same year.

After a long 13 years beer was finally legal in the States once again and therefore National Beer Day and New Beers Eve where born.

You see history isn’t completely boring.  Now go grab a beer and celebrate National Beer Day.

I think beer day and National Go Fishing Day should be combined and turned into national beer and fishing weekend.

Hey guys, thanks for the mention of our newest holiday. I’m the founder of National Beer Day. Prior to our celebrating April 7th, people would refer to March 1st as National Beer Day. I did some research and found out that it’s an Icelandic holiday. Why did America not have it’s own National Beer Day? I did some research into the history of beer in America and decided that April 7th would be a great day to have an American National Beer Day. It is my goal to write a bill and get it sponsored by some congressmen and make it an official holiday. Perhaps one day we will all get National Beer Day off work as a paid holiday. Ah, one can only dream!

      Hey Justin,

Thanks for stopping by the site. I’m sorry it took so long to get your comment up here, but it got caught in our spam filter and I didn’t see it until today.

I joined your group. That would be the best holiday ever.
