Is Rick Hendrick the George Steinbrenner of NASCAR?

This week Hendrick Motorsports inked a multi-million dollar deal with one of NASCAR’s young guns, Kasey Kahne. Kahne is joining the elite ranks of Hendrick Motorsports for the 2012 race season. He is joined by like of teammates Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Jimmie Johnson. Hendrick Motorsports has boasted Winston and Sprint Cup Championships in 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2001, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009. Regardless of your thoughts; this is an impressive two decades. With Hendrick having a star studded stable of drivers he puts his best foot forward for many more Sprint Cup Championships.

Does any other owner have the talent or the resources to dethrone Rick Hendrick? Right now, I would say NO. The signing of Kasey Kahne to Hendrick Motorsports is like signing another all-star to the Yankees. “Kahne, who turned 30 on April 10, is an 11-time winner in the Cup Series. Now in his seventh full-time season at NASCAR’s elite level, Kahne also has earned 16 pole positions, 43 top-five finishes and 79 top-10s on the tour.” Quote from: Nascar

Rick Hendrick picked up another powerful pawn in the chess game that is NASCAR.
