Lets Talk NFL Draft 2010

Now I am not an analysis guy, so I wanted to take a look at the draft, how I thought it was run, and what differed from past NFL Drafts. I’ll throw in a little of my opinion about some winners and losers as well.  So Lets get started!!!

First of all I thought the prime time start for the 1st round of picks was huge.  USA Today reported, “ratings for the first round of the three-day event were up 30% from last year, when the first and second rounds were held on Saturday afternoon.”  Lets talk about the no-dilly daly attitude in between picks.  ESPN’s coverage kept me from changing the channel, and it seemed like NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was at the podium ready to announce the next pick just as time was expiring on the clock.  The 1st round of picks did have some special guest announcers as well.  Colt McCoy was introduced by his former Texas football coach and Drew Brees handled the announcement for the New Orleans Saints.  All in all, this 1st round draft was the best…. well thought out draft I’ve watched in a long time.  It was a well put together show, but remember this draft had a lot of blue chip talent as well.

Now for my opinion on the winners vs losers….

First and foremost Sam Bradford was chosen by the St. Louis Ram’s as the No. 1 draft pick for 2010.  Bradford has reportedly inked a $50 million dollar contract with the Ram’s (I say $50 million makes him a winner !!!!).  The Big 12 definitely seemed like a winner with twenty four (24) selections in the 1st round.  As far as a team that I think came out smelling like roses is the Raiders.  The raiders drafted five (5) players in the NFL draft that will have an immediate impact on the moral of that team. Newly acquired head coach of the Seattle Sea Hawks Pete Carroll did really well too… with two sought after 1st rounders and this is totally my opinion here, but they also drafted Notre Dame’s Golden Tate.

The Losers…….

Tim Tebow, Heisman Trophy Winner, National Champion, attributes of a true leader, drafted No.25.  I know there were questions about throwing motion and this and that, but this kid is something, and I think he was hosed.

Jimmy Clausen, his stock sank (that’s the only thing I can say about that).  Clausen was foreseen as a 1st round pick, but was drafted in the middle of 2nd Round.

I know there were a handle full of others that really bit it hard, but this article is already getting too long…. I’m glad to see Denver wasted one of their picks on Tebow. I could be wrong but I see him as another of those great college QB’s that are not pro players. Could be the fact that he’s a gator and I have no regard for them. That said, Major Wright will easily make the bears club.

Denver is probably the only place he has a chance. Bias? Maybe, but I don’t think he is prepared at all to run a pro offense. It will take a couple years for him to develop, if he does at all. He has been surrounded by superior talent his entire career at UF. Matt Leinart was similar at USC. Let’s see what happens
