What!?! Tiger misses the cut?
I know this doesn’t seem possible, but it happened Friday at the Quail Hollow Championship. Tiger shot a seven (7) over 79, missing the cut by a whopping eight (8) strokes….You might ask yourself has this ever happened before? Well the answer is yes, with Friday’s whale, the total is six (6) times in 241 events as a professional. (Yeah that’s what I thought 241 events).
Quail Hollow is Woods’ second event after his forced hiatus from golf. During the Masters’, ESPN reports, Tiger set quite a few different records at Quail Hollow, but they aren’t what he is known for best:
• Worst 36-hole total of professional career (153)
• 2nd-worst 18-hole score of professional career (79)
• Ties worst 9-hole score of entire career (43 on back 9 today)
• Hit 6 fairways over first 2 rounds, worst of his professional career
• 1st missed cut in non-major since 2005
• Back-to-back double-bogeys (or worse) for third time in entire career (14th and 15th holes today)
Tiger said this during an interview, “Every day I do media, I get asked it, so it doesn’t go away,” he said. “Even when I’m at home paparazzi still follow us, helicopters still hover around. Does it test you? Yes, of course it does. Is that any excuse? No, because I’m out there and I have the same opportunity as everybody else here in this field to shoot a good number. And I didn’t do it.“
Now the question at hand is what’s wrong with Tiger? Is it the layoff from golf, the media (to include the paparazzi), or his personal life?
Tiger Woods is a man on a mission. No doubt, when he gets back in the swing of things (sorry bad pun) and gets his personal life put back together (divorce or no divorce), he will be a force to recon with. Tiger has proved more than his list of worst records to me and the Golf community and I think his 97.51% average for making the cut proves it!
