Many people recognize Tony Romo as the Dallas Cowboys superstar Quarterback or as I like to call him Tony Over-Throw-Mo. But have you thought of him as being a professional golfer?
Romo last week put himself past the first stage of qualifying for the HP Byron Nelson PGA Championship! Unfortunately for Romo, his day job (playing in the NFL), cost him the opportunity to advance for a chance to play in the tournament. Romo instead of making his tee-time, reported to the practice field with the Cowboys.
ESPN also reports, Romo is scheduled for a U.S. Open local qualifier on Thursday. A little FYI, Romo has not gotten past the local qualifier on two different occasions. Romo is reportedly a 1 handicap and plays whenever he gets the time.
I find it particularly interesting how many athletes are good at multiple sports.
Do you guys remember Deon Sanders, how about Bo Jackson? These are just a few of the many athletes that have been easily been able to cross over into a sport outside.
How many more multi-sport people can you guys come up with? For the next two (2) weeks the person with the most multi-sport professional athletes comments will win our latest giveaway. So be sure to comment below!!!! (BTW… You can not post the two I have listed!)

I’ll get the ball rolling. Gene Conley, played pro baseball and Basketball I believe in the 60′s or 70′s.
Ha! You’re old! Thanks for starting it off.
We’ll see who’s old when I get up there in June.
UJ,
Yeah, I will have to take you out to the breweries!
Adam
Taking on the king? God help me.
We will go to Brickworks or 3 Floyds. Floyds is the best, but you can probably get some of that in Florida already.
The only ones I can think of right now would be Bo Jackson and deion Sanders.
Jason,
your gonna have to try again brother, I already named those in the article.
Well Petry how about college into pro like Jeff Samardzija.
Speaking about football players going into golf. What about Jerry Rice?
Have to talk to Adam, but that one’s good in my book. He officially got his card, but did play in some nationwide tour events.
Aren’t we all missing the biggest one still? He played 3 sports.
I would guess Jim Thorpe. I know he played football and baseball at the pro level. He was so good he probably played basketball too. Other than that I don’t know who might fit.
You guys aren’t even trying, for crying out loud, google it!!!!
Were trying but I figured googling was just a last resort. Thorpe is correct by the way. Without google, I know Chris Weinke played QB for Carolina and minor league level baseball for the Blue jays. Rick Rhoden pitched in the big leagues and played on the senior golf tour. MJ of course played minor league ball and another sport in Chi town. That’s all for now.
Michael Jordan… duh
Finally someone!!!! Thanks IAN O. for naming MJ!!!
Petry,
What you guys don’t acknowledge old guys? I believe I mentioned him.
Joe,
So sorry for the mistake, I re-read your post and you did mention Jordan… I should have seen that awhile ago…. My bad!!!
No big deal, I figured you just missed it and I was just in the mood to rib you a bit. If Adam was the culprit I could get nasty with him cause he’s family. LOL
