People Use the “F” Word While Playing Golf; Even Tiger!!!
I know it’s a “bit cranky” to use the “F” Word,” while playing golf, but lets get real, who hasn’t? You got to asking what is all this about? While preparing for the 139th British Open Championship which begins on Thursday (7/15/2010), Tiger Woods, has been facing some pretty tough questions from the British Media.
Tiger was asked by one reporter, “…Many of us over the years have heard you use the F word, we’ve seen you spit on the course, and we’ve seen you throw tantrums like chucking your clubs around. Are you willing to cut out all those tantrums this week and respect the home of golf?”
Tiger’s response: “I’m trying to become a better player and a better person, yes.”
Ok, now think back to your last round of golf. How many of you used the “F” Word?” I did…How many of you spit? I did… (On my shoe, no less) Did you throw a tantrum? I did as I was getting back into the cart. Throwing my five (5) iron into my bag. I think my exact words were… “Mother “F’er”… I hit that thin….”
I guess I just don’t get it. You have the greatest golfer in the past how many decades, and you as a professional reporter, berate the man! Calling on him to show some respect for the home of golf. I’m all for showing some love for St. Andrew’s, however, don’t call B.S. on a man for doing the very same thing you did on the course last week. That’s my two cents… What’s yours????

Petry,
We can’t throw stones and the British Media for asking that question, American reporters have been asking Tiger that question for years.
Plus I agree that he need to work on it. Golf is a game of integrity and it’s players deserve to be held on a higher standard than the everday golfers on public courses.
I know that is hyprocrital, but it is part of being a professional athlete. We blast basketball and football players for making a spectacle of themselves all the time. It is time Tiger was held to a higher standard and controlled himself on the course.
Adam
Wow…you are calling for a an athlete to put himself above not only the sport he plays, but everyone who plays the sport? I’m not sure, your talking about Tiger here. Integrity is one thing, but the offensive lineman, calling the defensive line a “p**sy” is any different? I find that hard to believe. Its the same level of intensity doesn’t matter the playing field…
I am not asking anybody to be above the sport they play, but I am asking to respect it. Football is not a game of integrity, you lie to refs, fake injuries for a free time out, and talk trash. Plus you don’t have fans or cameras close enough to hear your expletives like Tiger does. But golf is and Tiger needs to respect that.
And the level of intensity is not nearly the same. Golf is not intense I don’t care what anybody says. It may be nerve racking at times, but standing over the ball by yourself with as much time as you need to make a shot in a completely quiet environment isn’t nearly as intense as being at the 2 yard line with 12 300 pound men coming at you with 2 seconds left in the game in a stadium so loud you can’t hear yourself think.
