First and foremost I am not and do not consider myself a beer expert by any means. The other members of Fanbrew explore the beer world. Its safe to say my palette is not very refined, but hey… it works for me…. That’s the background, now for the Miller Lite vs. Bud Light Party Test.
So I decided to perform a little social experiment during a get together with co-workers. The results…scary…..
I purchased one case of beer a piece. Twenty Four (24) bottles of Miller Lite and Twenty Four (24) bottles of Bud Light. I put both cases in the same 40 quart cooler, Miller on the left, and Bud on the right. I then covered the bottles in ice. Note: the necks were sticking out, with caps showing….
As people started to mingle, I offered the obvious choices, water, pop, beer, and wine. I did not specify what beer was in the cooler. Long story short, I wanted to see what beer would be drank the most. Can anyone guess?
At the end of the night… I open the cooler to find these numbers left:
Fourteen (14) Miller Lites & Two (2) Bud Lights
How could the disparity be that much? Could it have been a left versus right thing? Did that many people prefer Bud Light over Miller? Domestic Light beer is Domestic Light Beer. I fully understand that, but what drove Bud Light to destroy Miller Lite in my ever so small social experiment? I really can’t say for sure. What are your thoughts? How would you have made the experiment better and what should I consider for the next time?
On a side note, I think the Bud Light people were more fun than the Miller Lite people.

Having a brother who stocks the shelves at Walmart and other beer distributers he has made me pay close attention to how much room is dedicated on the shelves. Next time you are in walmart look at the miller lite section compared to bud light. The miller lite section is double if not triple the size of bud light.
That right there tells you your answer.
As far as another contest goes, you should pour the beer into the glasses and have a blind taste test.
It could have been one or two people who preferred bud lite drinking while the others stuck to non-alcoholic drinks. It was a work function after all.
