NBA Playoffs coming up I’m pumped!!!…The greatest athletes in the world at their best!!…Hopefully we can make it through without Kevin Garnett touching someones genitals this year ” “You don’t do that. Speaking of sports, isn’t that what half this site is suppose to be about? (and no, the cubs aren’t part of sports!) I say Purdue handles Duke on Friday and Sunday the Big Tens OSU & MSU will face down each other for a trip to the Final Four.
How overrated was the Big East anyway, Huh!!! 8 teams given bids, 5 ousted before the second round!! F… the Big East, I’m sick of hearing how tuff that conference is. They can’t hold the jock strap of any Big Ten team in B-ball.
I say 2 Big Ten Teams in the Final 4, Purdue & either OSU or MSU, Kentucky & either Butler, Xavier or Syracuse, Any takers!!!!
I don’t know shit about college hoops other than the big teams are out and Purdue is still in. But it seems to me that this is a year of a lot of unexpected wins. In fact all the experts brackets are torn to shit and the only person left with a perfect bracket is a 17 year old autistic kid. So this year doesn’t seem like a year I will be placing any bets on the tourney.
Along with not getting my log in from Adam I see we still have to scroll through 10,000 fan chat posts to add a comment here in fan chat!! Adam, are you all talk and no walk? Typical flubs fan, drink your beer, feel the guys crotch next to you and watch the flubs lose another one!!
Oh Dave how we missed you! I set your logon up this morning. I am sorry I was all talk and no action, but you disappeared and I thought it was a no go. If you need help logging in let me know. As far as the fan chat goes, without you it doesn’t get used so it is low on the priority list. I hope to get a forum set up to chat on, but that is going to take me hours to setup and skin.
Speaking of the Olympics, these were the greatest games I’ve seen played in my lifetime! From a young athlete loosing his life in a crash at over 90 mph in the luge practice to the dramatic overtime gold medal USA/Canada hockey game, to the USA topping the winter games medals standings (1st time ever) to Canada winning the most golds of the games after never winning a gold in the winter Olympics on their own soil. These were the most entertaining and exhilerating winter games of all time!!! Thank God for the spirit and competition of sports!!!
It has been tough for the winter Olympics to compete with Phelps & Bolt in the summer Olympics. Those to guys brought a lot of fun and hype to the summer games and I am a sucker for an Olympian that is just dominating the competition.
Phelps has been talking about retiring after he next Olympics, think it will happen?
I’d hate to see that because he’s very young and a extremely gifted athlete. But on the flip side, in his view, if he dominates again what left does he have to accomplish? He’ll have know where to go but down.
We’ve always dominated the summer games (for the most part), that’s why these past winter games were so good.
Swimming is definitely a young mans sport, and by the time his third Olympic appearance finishes he will be about 30. I think he has got it in him to compete well in the next Olympics, but after that he made be pushed back to a relay team as the anchor for younger crowd.
He is already the world’s most decorated Olympian and my bet is that he can pick up 3 or for more metals at the next set of games. But after that it would probably be tough.
Yeah, Curling was awesome…. are you kidding me, I didn’t watch one event, because the Winter Olympics are like watching paint dry. And it stinks too!!!!
God Petry you sure aren’t a sportsman at all are you. I did watch several curling matches and they were awesome. The stratagey, technique, drama, it was all there. Athletes competing for their countries, that’s what the spirit of competition is all about noodle head!
Now that the Olympics are over (Ryan I know you just had your 1st baby boy, but where was your love for the Olympics on this site)I hope that us region rats will give the Blackhawks their due. Starting tonight they are back in action with the 3 Olympians playing, Kane, Toews & Seabrook. These are phenominal hockey players and along with the rest of this young and talented team deserve every bit of attention we give the Bears, Bulls & dividedly the White Sox & Cubs. Common Region, lets get behind this team. The Blackhawks are a once in a life time team, enjoy and support them all the to the Stanley Cup!!!
With the race season upon us starting this weekend I have to wonder if the rule changes NASCAR is instituting this year are going to make the series more competitive by actually making for some racing or if they’re going to turn it into hockey on rubber over asphalt. One things for sure things should heat up and become very interesting right off the bat on Sunday.
The rules changes are designed to put more emphasis on the drivers and less on the cars. That’s what the drivers wanted. That’s a good thing for actual race car drivers. Not being a big NASCAR fan I think it’s a bad thing for this series because all they know how to do is put each other into the wall.
1) They are allowing bump drafting all the way around the track again this year instead of just on the straights. Didn’t they just eliminate this a couple of years ago because of all the wrecks? Can you say larger crash budget for all the teams!!
2)On top of that they are going to take away all major driver penalties for aggressive driving. Saying they will let the drivers now police themselves. Retaliation driving (wrecking) will be allowed. That’s like giving a loaded gun to a suicidal mass murderer!
3) By March the rear wings are supposed to be off and spoiler put on the rear of the car giving the drivers more down force which will make the cars easier handling in traffic and faster through the corners. I actually like this rule change.
4) And the last final big rule change is they are opening up the restrictor plates with the largest holes in over 20 seasons on the super speedways. This obviously gives the cars more horse power and the drivers will actually have to control the throttle more instead of just running around the track pedal to the metal for an entire race. Another rule change I agree with.
Whether these changes will make for better racing and a more interesting series or they turn it into a weekly demolation derby only time will tell. One things for sure, we are going to see something different this Sunday starting at Daytona.
Wow! I didn’t know about all these changes. Thanks Dave, this is fantastic. I can write a post about 5 reasons why NASCAR doesn’t suck now. The only other thing I want to see is having the tracks in the Chase changed. I love it and may actually watch some races this year.
Thats all you hear about, I heard a blurb about Johnson crashing and having to goto a back up car, but really…. why is everyone putting so much stock in her????
She was all hype and no substance after 5 years in INDYCAR. Racing is pretty much a male dominated sport and she’s a pretty good looking girl so she’s popular amongst us men. I really don’t care for her and think she’s just pretty much a whiner when she doesn’t get her way. She did prove though after the ARCA race last week at Dayton that she may have a better future in the junior driver NASCAR Sprint Cup & Nationwide circuits.
Rubbing, banging and wrecking each other is not racing!!! NASCAR is just a high speed demolation derby. That’s why I hope some of the rules changes make the series more competitive and makes the guys want to race.
The bump drafting and leaner penalizing of aggressive drivers are really stupid rule changes. It’s just going to allow these idiots to bump somebody out of the way and wreck them instead of racing them and passing them with precision timing.
200 laps of driving in a circle are pretty damn boring without a little drama from pissed off drivers. I like the rule changes and hope it mixes things up a bit. You want NASCAR to be about driving then every race should be a road course and not an oval.
Agreed except for the fact racing is also about driving at super high speeds. That’s why I like open wheel, the fastest race cars on earth. (running in a straight line isn’t racing either, it’s about land speed records). Open wheel has done the same thing over the last decade that NASCAR did 30 years ago, implement rules that slow the cars down. I hate it, it restricts technology.
When I lived in Indy in the early 90′s the speedway record fastest lap was set at 236 mph with 250+ on the straights. Now, almost 20 years later they can’t even break 230. They should be running 250 -270 mph by now. They used to advance the safety and handling of the car as the speeds went up, now they just advance the techniques to slow them down
Same thing with NASCAR, they should be turning laps over 200 mph now but they slowed the damn cars down with restrictor plates and spoilers, etc.
Racing is supposed to be about going as fast as you can and being the first across the finish line after a given amount of laps. Today’s sport is nothing close to that.
I would like to see it myself. Anything, even a head case like Marshall, is better than Hester at this point. Somewhere along the line Hester got scared and started running east and west to the out of bounds line instead of running north and south splitting defenders like he used to when he was returning kicks for TDs. He dances around to much then looks for the side line and after 2 years he still can’t run a precision passing route!
Adam, you’re right! I said a while back that unless we do something, anything, with the o-line, the Bears are running in place, literally!!! We need to rebuild that o-line. I’d rather see that myself too. But,if we can trade Hester straight up for another receiver, I’ll take that. Hester is a wasted space on the roster right now.
I haven’t heard that rumor yet, but I just got a boner reading that. Who wouldn’t like that? Even though he is a head case, he instantly makes takes whole group of receivers from average to really really good. Him along with Arommashadu, Knox, and Bennett makes that group maybe 4th to 7th best in the league, definitely top 10.
And Hester can be replaced on returns. Knox and Daniel Manning are both excellent kickoff returners, which Hester wasn’t doing anyway, while Knox can return punts and Bennett took a punt back for a TD this past season (Hester hasn’t done that in a while. Its an immediate upgrade at every position. I’m in
Dale Jr. is the biggest disgrace to racing that there ever has been. 25 laps into the Bud shootout he’s already crying about his car being too loose and drops off the pace. What’s up with that Jr? Give a loose car to Smoke and he’ll take it to victory lane every time!!! You just dirt track the thing around the asphalt oval for crying out loud!! What a waste and an insult to The Intimidater’s gene pool!!! How this guy is NASCAR’s most popular driver just goes to show you what kind of fan base this series has. What a wimp. He couldn’t drive a Chevy Impala in a straight line down I65 at 65 mph without crying about how loose it is. Get a grip Dale and just drive the damn car %#&*@!!!! Puss!!!
Don’t get ahead of yourself, I’m pretty sure Kerry Ernhardt was his biggest disappointment. Dale Jr. was a kid who came up on his dad’s name and never proved himself. Budweiser made him a marketing king and there has never been a reason for it. I don’t see him any better than Michael Waltrip. (BTW… Waltrip is my favorite driver)
Chalk it up to another open wheel driver that looks like they’re going to have success rubbing fenders with the Good Ole Boys of NASCAR. Only this time it’s a GIRL!!!! Patrick just finished 7th in the ARCA/REMAX series at Dayton. She’s only won one race in the IRL, has had limited time in a stock car (a few testing sessions and then some practice laps before the race) and yet she qualifies 12th for the race, races in the top 5 for most of the race and finishes 7th when she tried to pass for 4th with a couple of laps to go and gets shuffled back in the draft to 7th at the flag. Like I said before, anyone can rub fenders. It takes skill to drive an open wheel car!!!
I would compare it taking a couple of rounds of batting practice, fielding some balls in the field before the game and then going out and going 3 for 4 with a homer, 2 RIB’s and throwing a guy out at home in a double A baseball game after never having played baseball before, that’s good!!
And I’m not even a Danica Patrick fan at all. She’s all hype and no substance. Like I said, one win in 5 years in the IRL aint squat. Then she does that in Nascar’s 3rd tier series, give me a break, Nascar Sucks!!
Nope, not even close to Jerry West, Elgin Baylor or Magic Johnson. Kobe’s a selfish one dimensional ball hog, those other 3 were twice the player he’ll ever be. Can you tell I really don’t like him?
Sorry Adam, you’re totally wrong here. There’s a whole lot more to playing basketball than being a scorer. Bryant is a great scorer, obviously. He’s scored more points than anyone in Lakers history, that’s enough said right there. But when it comes to being a complete player, especially in the long list of great ones that have gone through that organization I wouldn’t even put him in the top 5. You can add Kareem and George Mikan to the other 3 I mentioned as great Lakers that were better basketball players than Bryant is or ever will be.
And, as far as the greatest to ever play the game????? You’ve got to be kidding me!!!!! Jordan was that and James is closest to his class, It sure isn’t Bryant, What could you possibly be thinking?????
I didn’t say he was the greatest ever, but he is amongst them with years left to go.
So what makes him the best? Maybe that he has the most points ever for a Laker? Maybe that he has 4 championships just 1 short of Magic which he will get soon, Maybe his 14 consecutive all star appearances, maybe his league MVP, his Allstar MVP, his finals MVPs.
Not enough? How about the fact the Bryant is one of the best defenders in the league and in Laker history. He has been on 10 consecutive first or second all-defensive teams?
As for the best LakerI think he is and if he isn’t then he will be soon.
You make good points for KB Adam but as it is with sports everyone has their own opinions. On my all Laker team KB would be the 1st man off the bench. Magic & West are the guards, Baylor a forward and twin towers Mikan & Kareem in the post.
With KB coming off the bench that would be one hellava team!!!
On the brew side of fanbrew, Lets get real folks!!, Adam actually knows what he’s doing here! Don’t critique a beer unless you know how to pour it, taste it AND STICK YOUR DAMN NOSE IN IT!!!
Now, I’m not an expert by any means but I do know how to enjoy a beer. You serve it just below room temp (45 degrees F., alright a little bit colder than just below room temp but us Germans serve it at room temp.), you pour it down the middle of the glass, you let the head build up as high as it will go (don’t worry about filling the glass or what’s left in the bottle), you stick your nose in the head, then you sip it!! Now that’s tasting beer!!!
Hey, if you’re a beer “drinker”, that’s fine. Believe me, I’ve been a beer “drinker” for too many years, more than I’d like to admit. But if you want to critique a beer, do it right, do it proud and enjoy the hell out it!!! The way beer is supposed to be enjoyed. (see my comments under the Grolsch post)
And Ryan, Damn it! Where are your daily articles? I know you’ve taken the weekends off but damn! I need something to do (I live a very simple life) and until there are more sports fans on this site all I have to debate is you because everyone else that was on at the beginning has petered out. And believe me, I hate it when I have to agree with you like on the college b-ball post!, And the Bears, And the Sox. Com’on be contriversial! Will ya?
Hey! My internet was down all damn day and I have other things that need to get done so I can’t sit around all day waiting for it to come back up. And the purpose of this “fan chat” area is not for you to give me a hard time, its for people to post ideas on what they would like to see us write about. So unless you have an idea, get off my ass, I’ve put up plenty of articles and will continue to put up plenty more.
Well, after the 1st couple of weeks that this fanbrew site has been open for business I can see that the most responses belong to the beer review side. That’s fine, I myself used to be a big beer guy but no longer. It’s filling, and at my age I want to get a fast buzz so I’m now a Segrams guy. Being a life long sports fan I’m now more interested in bitching about today’s athletes and my teams.
We need more sports fans on this site! I want more hot debate going on about the current world of sports! It’s what society revolves around, their sports teams! Let’s get sports fans involved!!!!!
On the flip side Adam. When are you going to start brewing your own beer. I’ve always been interested in that and was checking out recipes and websites the night I got an email from Ryan saying you were starting this site. I understood you were going to undertake the process yourself so I’ve been waiting. That night I was looking for not only recipes but places to buy ingredients. I was hoping to get some insight from you after you got going. While I’m not a big beer drinker any longer I would love to brew my own beer here at home and sip a couple of them with a Segrams.
ps, your beer reviews are darn good but I’m not going to go out a spend 10 to 15$ for a 6er to try them. If I’m going to spend that much, I’m brewing my own and it’s going to be thick & rich!
I am going to start brewing soon. Hopefully in a couple of weeks here. I need the bday cash so I can pick up the brew kit.
I have the complete Joy of Home Brewing & a home brewers reference guide, so any questions that pop up should be able to be answered.
I don’t know how often you get out this way, but in Crown Point there is a guy that has a store on the square that sells all the ingredients and supplies needed to brew.
The best part about home brewing is if you get good enough you can make those $14.00 six packs and it will only cost you like $0.25 a beer.
I know you’ll have to brew to your tastes but I really hope it’s on the dark rich side that blows you away after one glass, when I do it that’s what I’m brewing!
That won’t be for me. At least not at first. I will probably start with a traditional lager something that isn’t too complex. Then I will work into the ambers and finally do a porter.
The Martz deal is just another bumbling effort by this organization to prove how incompetent it is. This guy dis’s Culter in the media last year and so they go out and hire him now. I’ll bet this relationship (Cutler/Matrz) works out just fine, right!
Looks like the Bears’ search for an offensive coordinator is over. Breaking reports are saying the team has come to an agreement with Mike Martz to fill the position. I’m sure Bear fans have plenty to say about this. I would love to hear it and will have plenty to write about myself later on.
How about some love for college basketball on this site! It’s the best game being played right now (besides Blackhawk hockey). Baseball starts this month but college b-ball is happening right now. While the Big 10 race for the regular season title isn’t much of a race the tournament should be a good one. And Purdue has a good shot to go to the final 4 and win the Big 10 tournament for the 2nd year in a row. Boiler Up!!
Did you guys see the article about Mickelson’s 21 year old wedge that fits through a loophole in the new grooved wedges that have been banned by the PGA?
Is he cheating or not? It is a legal club, but I think it is still wrong to use it unless they are widely available to all players.
This is not called cheating in my book. If there are loopholes why not use them, politician’s use them, judge’s use them. Can you truely call them cheaters when they use the rules to their advantage. It is called a sport and the real factor here is winning at all cost. To be better than your Competition.
It would only be cheating if he tried to use a club that was banned. That fact that the club is allowed means that he isn’t cheating. I personally have no problem with it, but golf is supposed to be the “game of honor” and I think continuing to use it makes him come off as arrogant.
That is viciously ugly. But I’m also not a fan of the blue turf Boise St has. I’m all for artificial surfaces, the new field turf isn’t hard on your body like older surfaces and it won’t get destroyed like grass (Soldier Field for example), but fields should be green. That’s how its always been and that’s how it should always be. I really hope this isn’t a trend that starts to catch on.
How come you are not talking about the wonderful things the Detroit Lions are doing to turn a dismal organization around. I know this is a tough sell, but they drafted a good QB and hopefully they go and get some quality free agents to protect him on the Oline, but the defense is improving, young, and the coaching staff is working together to get their shit together.
I’ll tell you what Freddie, since you have been a fan of the site since the beginning I will do a segment on the Lions in my NFL draft recap in April. Just remind me so I don’t forget. Good young team by the way, and they have a great coach. A good draft this year could do wonders for that franchise.
I’ll get it started. Here is a clip as to how pranks backfire. The students blindfolded their coach and told him if he made the shot he was going to the Final Four. Well much to their surprise he made it.
Just saw this… that coach is actually getting to go to the final four. Several groups have offered to donate tickets since the shot was damn near impossible and he handled the prank incredibly well and was a good sport about the whole incident. With all the donations his team may get to go as well.
To the participants of “Local Dark Lord Day II 2010″ at the residence of Adam:
Enjoy your Lord of Darkness and don’t get too crazy.
Postponed. We will let you know when it comes back!
I know its only like 30 laps into the Talledega 500, but my man Michael Waltrip is got some help from his old team mate Dale Jr., and he’s lead’n this thing!!!!
Tiger is the favorite at the masters at 5 to 1. I def. think he will win!!!!!!!!!
He doesn’t stand a chance. He is going to be beat up by the course.
NBA Playoffs coming up I’m pumped!!!…The greatest athletes in the world at their best!!…Hopefully we can make it through without Kevin Garnett touching someones genitals this year ” “You don’t do that. That’s gay on his part. I told him that he was gay, too, for touching me in my private parts.” Francisco Elson of the Denver Nuggets on KG grabbing his genitals.
There is nothing wrong with a little ball tickle every once in a while, as long as both parties are willing. Uh I mean, Boo to KG.

Go Hawks! I don’t like Hockey, I just can’t get into it, but I respect a good team when I see one.
Adam check this out. It is called BeerTapTV.com
http://listsrv.oldchicagorestaurants.com/t/247542/2489630/234458/0/
Checked it out. That is pretty cool. Thanks J. I will have to watch some episodes later.
A BIG CONGRATULATIONS shout out to Ryan & Jill on the arrival of their new bouncing baby boy Gavin!!!!!
Yes, he is absolutely a beautiful blessing. Congrats Ryan & Jill!
Ryan Are you going to do an article about Mock drafts? I know the football season just ended but there a lot of talk on espn radio about it.

There is a rumor that the Bears are trading Devin Hester for Brandon Marshall.
Good move?
I would like to see it myself. Anything, even a head case like Marshall, is better than Hester at this point. Somewhere along the line Hester got scared and started running east and west to the out of bounds line instead of running north and south splitting defenders like he used to when he was returning kicks for TDs. He dances around to much then looks for the side line and after 2 years he still can’t run a precision passing route!
I would rather get something for the offensive line. I don’t need another receiver my QB can’t throw too.
I’m in
How the hell did you spell Aroma f…ing dishyou??? I guess that PU education paid off for something!!!!
I’ll bet you can spell Flava f…ing flav too!!! The corner back, however you flipp’in say it!!!! Afalava????
I hope this is true for the sake of just wanting it to happen!!!
WHO DAT! WHO DAT! Who Dat Say They Gonna Beat Dem Saints. WHO DAT! WHO DAT! Aint Nobody Gonna Beat Dem Saints!!!!
Especially Not Dem Damn Ole Dolts!!
Brees was phenomenal!!
Awesome game with the right outcome, and I made a little cash off of it as well. WHO DAT?!
Dale Jr. is the biggest disgrace to racing that there ever has been. Puss!!!
Dave,
Don’t get ahead of yourself, I’m pretty sure Kerry Ernhardt was his biggest disappointment. Dale Jr. was a kid who came up on his dad’s name and never proved himself. Budweiser made him a marketing king and there has never been a reason for it. I don’t see him any better than Michael Waltrip. (BTW… Waltrip is my favorite driver)
Waltrip, there’s another overrated waste of a race car driver. He couldn’t hold his big brother DW’s jock strap!
Point Dave!
Yeah you make my point even easier to make…. Dale Jr. doesn’t live up to the hype either…
Hell Michael, has to sponsor his own cars and the team because everyone knows he can’t drive, but he is one hell of a marketing genius.
The problem with Dale Jr. is he can’t drive and his commercials still suck!
Boogity, Boogity, Boogity
Point Peaches!!!!
Too early. 1 top 10 finish amongst the lowest classes of NASCAR doesn’t make her good.
This week Kobe officially scored more points, than any other Laker in team history… My question is Kobe the best Laker ever?
Nope, not even close to Jerry West, Elgin Baylor or Magic Johnson. Kobe’s a selfish one dimensional ball hog, those other 3 were twice the player he’ll ever be. Can you tell I really don’t like him?
I despise Kobe as a person. But he his indisputably one of the best to ever play the game. And definitely tops amongst Lakers.
Just sparking discussion…. of course….
Player vs. Player….
Extra Martial Affair vs. Icon….
Kobe vs. Michael
championships
points
the whole thing…..
WHO’S BETTER?????
Dave,
I didn’t say he was the greatest ever, but he is amongst them with years left to go.
Yeah, you are making the same case I make against Manning. My hatred for him makes it nearly impossible to place him amongst the tops.
Thanks Dave!
Will ya?
His internet was down yesterday.
Dave,
I am going to start brewing soon.
As soon as I get going I will let you know.
Adam
PS Thanks for the compliment on my reviews.
I know you’ll have to brew to your tastes but I really hope it’s on the dark rich side that blows you away after one glass, when I do it that’s what I’m brewing!
Dave,
That won’t be for me. At least not at first. I will probably start with a traditional lager something that isn’t too complex. Then I will work into the ambers and finally do a porter.
But at first I have to keep it simple.
It is about time they give Martz the job. Now how about the d coordinator.
Boiler Up!!
Ask and you shall receive…check back at 2:30 this afternoon
This is fucking stupid. I am all for team colors but one big red field is just an eyesore. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/blog/dr_saturday/post/Eastern-Washington-literally-seeing-red-over-new?urn=ncaaf,216240
GO LIONS!!!
Can you say worst team in the history of the NFL!
Seriously nobody can ever be worse than they are.
We will see, when the Lions beat the mess out the bears 2 games next year!!!
Go Lions!
Well much to their surprise he made it.
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/post/Video-Prank-goes-awry-when-coach-hits-blindfold?urn=top,215799
Great video!!!!
Just saw this… that coach is actually getting to go to the final four. Several groups have offered to donate tickets since the shot was damn near impossible and he handled the prank incredibly well and was a good sport about the whole incident. With all the donations his team may get to go as well.
That is awesome, but I am a not sure the students should get to go.
I can’t beleive the schools administration would allow them to make the deal and then back out…
